Rare, threatened, and endangered species includes those species which are defined by state and federal law as having populations challenged for long term survival. Population decline is due to both natural causes and man made causes. While many of the extant populations of rare species are protected by conservation easements and ownership of properties through organizations such as the Nature Conservancy, significant occurrences of those target species may occur on private lands. Initiation of any other state or federal natural resource permit requirements triggers the need for a RTE species review and survey. Envirens’ approach to RTE concerns includes development of unique management strategies which accommodate both rare species and human activities.
